TWO YEARS AND TWO E.P’S INTO THEIR CAREER, THE CALL BACK ACADMEY HAVE LEFT THEIR HUGE GROWING FAN BASE WONDERING WHAT’S NEXT? AS THE BAND EXPLAINS TO US THERE ARE A LOT OF PLANS AHEAD!
Brighton has long been a command post for UK music talent and it appears the legacy is set to continue. Taking inspiration from the music which sound-tracked their formative years, a sound which is perhaps associated with the sun drenched coastlines of North America rather than the pebbled beaches of England. The Call Back Academy take their love from their musical influences, Anglicise it, and produce a sound which is both unique and identifiably their own.
This band have gained a huge fan base through the passion and dedication they have put into their releases and performances. After their 2 kick-ass E.P’s “Smarter Than Your Average Bear” and “Chapters” and their touring (Including an awesome BUTSER Festival line up on the 14th September 2013), the fans have been left wondering what will be the next step for these Brighton lads. Luckily we’ve got the inside info on what the band are planning next, so read on!
TO THOSE WHO DON’T KNOW ABOUT YOU TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOURSELVES AND YOUR SOUND?
Jonny- We are from the south coast England. We basically grew up through pop punk, metal music, so we always wanted to kind of merge our two main genres together in a kind of cool
Graeme- right now we are sort of a
transition phase, because we have released two E.P's- our first was basically a pop-punk E.P and our second E.P "Chapters" is a lot more heavier, at the moment we are sort of like pop punk easy core metal blended together.
WHAT MAKES THE CALL BACK ACADEMY UNIQUE COMPARED TO ALL THE OTHER BANDS OUT THERE?
Jonny- Probably the fact that we don't sing with American Accents haha! We've
always found, because the birth place of pop punk is America, there are a lot of bands that are adopting too much of the American style. We always said, you know we love these genre groups, but lets try to fuse the pop and the metal together in such a way that it's British.
FROM THE E.P’s YOU HAVE WRITTEN WHAT ARE YOUR FAVOURITE SONGS?
Ed- From the first E.P i think lost and found
Lewis- Yeah Definitely! Jonny's going to hate that because he's played it and sung it so many times.
Jonny- It's like Teen Spirit, it was like a
some sort of war torcher the amount of times I've heard that, and every time I hear it now, it's like a trigger, like someone scratching down a whiteboard.
Graeme- my favourite is probably my Disclaimer, i think it is the most diverse track, it has melodic metal mixed with
Jonny- For me as a writer, the new stuff we've been doing is my favourite, as it is just so much more dynamic compared to our older stuff.
SO YOU GUYS HAVE BEEN DOING PRETTY WELL AS A BAND AND WITH YOUR RELEASES, BUT THIS HAS LEFT YOUR FANS WONDERING WHATS GOING TO HAPPEN NEXT?
Graeme- At the moment, this year we haven't really been playing as many shows because we have been writing and because so far we are still sort of finding what sound we want to be. Our first E.P was really pop punk and our second E.P was more metal and we want to in this recording we're doing at the end of August merge the two together and really sort of develop our sound and we're aiming to get out a six tracker out to really establish ourselves in the scene in the UK really.Jonny- I think in terms of that it's basically what are plans are, grow, play as many shows as we can, killing live shows, recording some really cool tracks and overall just really trying to get our name out there more.
