You Me At Six kick things off playing to a rapidly growing audience, the likes of Underdog earning them a strong, positive reaction. With almost every seat occupied and the floor space as far back as the eye can see full, the dimming of lights and Jared’s appearance on staging that gradually lowers him to the floor causes cheers and applause of deafening levels to echo around the room – from there, it’s all systems go. Night Of The Hunter has thousands of people leaping as high as they can, voices of both new and old fans singing along with every word while Conquistador leaves the unsuspecting audience showered in fortune cookie confetti. However, it is City Of Angels that proves to be a true highlight – even before Jared fully vocalises his request that everyone holds their phones in the air, the arena is awash with flickering, swaying lights – the effect is mesmerising, as if watching a show in candlelight. Shannon’s Convergence instrumental, beautiful in its simplicity, is almost lost among a growing chant of his name and the appearance of two performers, leaping and twisting high into the air via a large see- saw brings with it one of the more random moments of the set. Soon after, fan favourite Kings & Queens has dozens of people teetering on shoulders, arms outstretched, voices slowly going hoarse. Up In The Air makes a fitting finale – the band standing among a lucky few individuals on stage with them. As the lights dim and the band say goodnight, the rapturous cheers that see them off send a clear message - MARS better not leave it another three years before they come back.
