MAXDMYZ - THE HATE PLANE
NEW ALBUM OUT 18th AUGUST 2014 / ‘GRIEVE’ SINGLE OUT 28th JULY 2014
Patience is a virtue. Having gradually built a loyal following while releasing a brace of albums and a series of EP’s with what can loosely be termed an ‘industrial metal’ focus, the London based quintet Maxdmyz have truly delivered with their brand new opus ‘The Hate Plane’.
With a broader sound palette that draws on acknowledged metal influences such as Pantera, Type-O Negative and Nile, as well as maverick electronicist Squarepusher, ‘The Hate Plane’ is both visceral and intelligent and contains a remarkable diversity of tunes that run the gamut from thrash to progressive and alt.rock with an occasional hint of electro-pop. New songs include the insane intensity of ‘Grieve’ [to be released as a single], the sensitive heart-core of ‘All’, the zombie punk of ‘A.K.A.’ and neo-gothic majesty of ‘Side With Satan’.
Bravura musicianship and a sympathetic production courtesy of Ays Kura give these diverse compositions a satisfying coherence, with one listen to ‘The Hate Plane’ amply demonstrating its wide-ranging texture, feel and integrity as Maxdmyz effortlessly traverse the genres.
But who are Mazdmyz? Frontman Twister has a voice that alternates between the dark romantic baritone of Pete Steele and a brutal death metal energy, while guitarist Skizzy has a playing style that synthesises the power and directness of Rammstein and fluency of Adam Jones [Tool]. Bassist A’Zedd combines the sensitive skills of John Myung [Dream Theater] and insane energy of Robert Trujillo in Infectious Grooves mode; drummer Jamie Tatnell has a personality somewhere between Keith Moon, Budgie and John Bonham and a similarly innovative, eccentric and heavy approach to his craft, and keyboard player Vortex adds additional texture and atmosphere to the band’s sound.
